I've had that happen to me at a grocery store. I guess it still bothers us, even after we've been out of the Org for a while because it's the JW way of telling you that you're living your life incorrectly and that you can't possibly be happy any other way. On top of that, it's a vibrant reminder of the pain we endured while in the Org - it makes me angry, especially since there were so many wrongs that will never be righted. I don't like being reminded of that, and that may be why you became angry, too. EWO

...we miss you..please come back to the Truth...............
by core inhad to call at a store late today to collect some items whe i was approached by an earnest young woman who i vaguely remembered.she had the earnest appearance of a cult member with glowing smile and earnest almost boring eyes.
she chatted generally about my family and then started to pat my arm and said "just try and come back...we miss you so much, you must miss the truth in your life", .
frankly i felt nauseous and for reasons of courtesy (or cowardice) did not reply words to the effect of get lost.

Let's hear some crazy/cool stories!
by amama2six inmy husband reminded me of something crazy we did when we first started dating, so i thought i'd share it here and see if anyone else has some fun stories to add!.
we went out to dinner one night...me in a nice dress and him in a dress shirt and slacks.
afterward we decided to hit the beach for a nice moonlit walk in the sand.

A few years ago, I went to a wedding with my hubby. Everything was pretty much typical wedding stuff up until the dinner was served. There I was, chomping away on a piece of roast beef, having a great chatty time, when a piece of the beef got stuck in my throat. It wasn't preventing me from breathing (thank goodness!), but it was preventing me from swallowing. I quickly learned that just because you can't swallow doesn't mean that you don't keep producing saliva. So, every time a little spit-ful of saliva went down my throat, my body tried to almost vomit it up because it couldn't go anywhere. So, I grab my husband and try to go to the ladies' room to hopefully spit this piece of meat up. Well, as should be expected, the ladies' room was full. So, I decide to go outside and try to hack it up. I figured that I would just look like I had had too much to drink and was puking my guts out, wedding style, rather than that I hadn't learned how to properly chew my food before swallowing. Unfortunately, that didn't work, and my husband started driving me to the nearest emergency room (I could still breathe fine the entire time). About halfway to the hospital, the piece of meat decided to just slide down my esophagus and into my stomach. Like it had never happened. We ended up going back to the wedding and eating some wedding cake (I was so hungry!). Maybe that's why I became a vegetarian!

Congratulations! You must know what a gift you have in your friend. It's so rare to have someone special in your life who actually understands what it's been like to be raised as a JW. I wish you and her happiness in your new freedom and new relationship! EWO

As Much as I hate to say this,I am glad for have being a J Dub
by SuperApostateGirl ini know this sounds crazy however being raised a jehovah's witness gave me the tools of respect for my fellow man.
also my parents had a huge role as well,of course.. i just find today there are soo many twisted people who are amused by the sickest of circumstances and pride themselves on belittling people.i mean i am the first to say.
i love funny sarcasm and making fun of the jehovah's witness religion because i believe in my heart its a crazy cult and way out in left field.

I would say I am not glad for having been raised as a J Dub. Growing up I had a slightly skewed viewpoint because my paternal grandfather had been disfellowshipped before I was born (for smoking - such a sin!). So, I was constantly faced with a two-sided point of view - one, telling me that those not in the Org. were bad and must be avoided, and the other was my relationship with my Grandpa. Perhaps the only advantage of being a JDub was an early appreciation for hypocrisy, cliques, and what mind-control can make people do. It has made me appreciate people who actually know what the meaning of love is. Eh, maybe I'm actually on the fence...there is bad with the good, good with the bad...sorry to ramble.
